• Make first and last paragraph fairly short—4 or 5 typed lines maximum

• Vary paragraph length within the letter

  • Be sure long paragraphs cover only one subject
  • Divide long paragraphs that cover two or more topics
  • Add a unifying topic sentence to short paragraphs that cover several subjects
