Semicolons
2. Use a semicolon to separate items in a series when they contain internal punctuation:
- When Cunard decided to take its fleet upmarket, the company's ships consisted of several transatlantic class mid-sized ships, which had mostly seen their better days; a few mid-sized, flashy ships that were flat-bottomed and therefore restricted to the Caribbean; the venerable Queen Elizabeth; and the new Queen Mary 2, the most powerful name brand at sea.
