This schedule will change and adapt to the needs of the class as we progress throughout the semester. Please visit the online schedule for updates and revisions. The blog is an assignment that will be weekly throughout the semester.

Week 1: 24 - 26 August

WENDNESDAY – Course introduction: syllabus, assignments, materials.

Week 2: 29 August - 2 September

MONDAY – Turn in a hardcopy of your Diagnostic Essay;
» Introduction to technology: Blogs and Wikis (password: eng1131)
» Assign grammar groups.
HW- Read Punctuation Made Simple .
As a group, review your punctuation or grammatical aspect and find at least one online game or online activity that address it. You will probably find that most grammar games and activities are geared toward elementary children or ESL students.Optimally, you will find something that both children and college students could enjoy because the best children’s games can be enjoyed by adults as well. Add a brief overview of your grammar points and a link to the game(s) or online activity under the grammar class assignment on the class wiki before class Friday (http://writingthrumedia.pbwiki.com/) (password: eng1131).

WEDNESDAY – Discuss scholarly sources vs. popular sources and evaluating a webpage
» Explain research and discussion assignment - sign up for times on wiki by Sunday at midnight. Whoever signs up for the first Monday needs to have a link to their article posted on the Wiki, or bring a copy of their article for me to scan in, by class next Monday, Sept 6.
HW – First blog due Sunday by midnight -- answer the blog after you have signed up for a research presentation/discussion time and after your group has used the wiki to post their grammar points.

HW – Read “Introduction: The Double Logic of Remediation” by Jay David Bolter and Richard Grusin. Be prepared to DISCUSS the reading Wednesday. It may facilitate discussion if you print out the reading and bring it to class Wednesday. Please note the talking points on the class wiki.
» First blog due Sunday by midnight;
» For Wed PM class, go online or to a game magazine and find a review of any children’s or teen’s (E or T, but not M rated game) for any console or PC, print it out, and bring it to class;
» Over the long weekend, you should begin playing a video game for your first video game review -- be sure and add which game that you are going to review to the GameReviews class Wiki page.



Week 3: 6 September - 9 September (No class Monday)

WEDNESDAY – Discuss Diagnostic essays and “Introduction: The Double Logic of Remediation” and media
HW – Read “Introduction: Toward an Aesthetic of Transition” by David Thorburn and Henry Jenkins by Monday;
» Go online or to a game magazine and find a review of any children’s or teen’s (E or T, but not M rated game) for any console or PC, print it out, and bring it to class tonight

WEDNESDAY PM STARTING AT 5PM– Explain video and media game review;
» Look at student example papers of game reviews: one and two.
» Writing workshop on video game reviews.

FRIDAY – Discuss “Introduction: The Double Logic of Remediation” and media

Week 11: 31 October – 4 November

MONDAY — Comparison/Contrast paper due today; get into teams for wiki. Go to your group website. Edit your home page to accurately reflect your group (include group members' names and group topic). Also, you need to start two different wiki pages today: the journal and the topic proposal. The journal will be updated throughout the process, but the topic proposal is due next Monday. And, for tonight's homework, I want each member of your group to become familiar with uploading to the wiki by uploading your comparison/contrast paper. These should be uploaded by class Wednesday.
